Daily Itinerary Items

Day 1 : Fly to Seattle
We have accommodations in suburban Seattle this evening before embarking on our journey.

Day 2 : Vancouver/Embark the ms Volendam
After breakfast, we drive north to the vibrant port city of Vancouver. The city's setting is spectacular, nestled between mountains and ocean. We board the ms Volendam, a mid-sized 1,400-passenger ship, for our three-night cruise into the spectacular Inside Passage. B,L,D

Day 3 : The Inside Passage
Snow-capped mountains, lush forests, hundreds of islands and coastal inlets mark our progress through an astonishing fjord-like waterway today. We trace Canada's Pacific Coast and Southeastern Alaska, seeing firsthand how this vital ocean route still links communities today. As we cruise, enjoy the many shipboard activities; delightful shows, music, and dancing light up the evening. B,L,D

Day 4 : Juneau
Today, we call on Alaska's capital, Juneau. It is the second largest capital in the U.S. by area but can only be reached by air or water. Its natural setting between the waters of Gastineau Channel, coastal mountains and forest make it one of the most stunning capitals. We sightsee and shop on our own or choose an optional excursion offered by Holland America. B,L,D

Day 5 : Enjoy a Scenic Train Ride
After breakfast on board, we disembark in Skagway. Here, we board the White Pass & Yukon Route Railway for an exciting narrow-gauge train ride along the path of the legendary Klondike gold seekers. We pass incredible panoramas of glaciers, mountains and waterfalls. Later, we arrive in Whitehorse. B,L

Day 6 : The Alaska Highway
The Alaska Highway was constructed during World War II as a military route linking Alaska with the lower 48 states. Tonight's comfortable accommodations are in Tok. Originating as an Alaska Road Commission camp in the 1940's, Tok is considered the "Sled Dog Capital of the World." B,D

Day 7 : Alaska's Interior
En route to Fairbanks, we pass through Delta Junction, an inland delta where the Delta and Tanana rivers meet and feed Alaska's largest agricultural area. After, we can relive childhood dreams at the Santa Claus House in the town of North Pole. Later, the Museum of the North reveals the region's rich culture with unique exhibits. Tonight, we head out for dinner and a show, Alaska style! After a delicious meal at the authentic Alaska Salmon Bake, delight at the The Golden Heart Revue!, Alaska's #1 musical show featuring characters from early and present day Fairbanks. B,D

Day 8 : Strike Gold in Fairbanks
Today we pan for gold at Gold Dredge 8. Get an up-close look at the famed Trans-Alaska Pipeline as we learn about the construction of this engineering marvel. Enjoy an all-you-can-eat lunch at Steamboat Landing. Later, get an insider's glimpse of Fairbanks, as we board the Riverboat Discovery sternwheeler for a narrated excursion on the Chena River and go ashore at a recreated Athabascan Indian camp. B,L

Day 9 : Denali National Park
This morning, we cross the Parks Highway bridge and continue through Nenana, a supply center for remote villages. Just over the Alaska Range, which offers sweeping vistas of untouched wilderness, we arrive in Denali National Park. At six million acres, it is one of the largest unspoiled regions in the world. A naturalist guide joins us on a 53-mile journey into the tundra. Watch for grizzly bear, moose, caribou, and Dall sheep. We end our day at a Denali Park Lodge. B,L

Day 10 : The Iditarod Trail
A scenic morning drive takes us to Palmer. After lunch at the Settlers Bay Lodge, we visit extraordinary sled dogs at the Iditarod Trail Headquarters and learn about the treasured Anchorage-to-Nome race. Later, traverse the Matanuska Valley, the state's first agricultural center, before arriving in Anchorage. B,L

Day 11 : Cruise Through Glaciers
We head south along the spellbinding scenery of Turnagain Arm. See animals up-close on a tour of the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. Later, we cruise the calm waters of Prince William Sound, with up-close views of tidewater glaciers. We often witness glaciers "calving" here, in which massive blocks of ice tumble into the sound! L

Day 12 : Anchorage
This morning, we browse the Anchorage Market or the collection at the Anchorage Museum. After a special Farewell Lunch and an enlightening visit to the Alaska Native Heritage Center, transfer to the airport for an overnight flight home. L

We arrive home from our wonderful Alaska experience.
