Daily Itinerary Items

Day 1 : Fly to Calgary
Our journey begins with a pleasant flight to Calgary, Alberta. Relax at our comfortable accommodations this evening at the International Hotel and meet our fellow travelers.


Day 2 : Calgary
We visit the Glenbow Museum and enjoy lunch atop the Calgary Tower. Following our Calgary experiences, we travel to Banff for two relaxing evenings at Banff Park Lodge. L


Day 3 : Banff
Our visit to Banff includes stops at Bow Falls and at unusual rock formations called hoodoos. Lunch is included today at the Banff Springs Hotel. L


Day 4 : Icefields Parkway
Breathtaking scenery borders our route along the Icefields Parkway. We stop to view picturesque Lake Louise. At the Columbia Icefield, we board a giant Glacier Explorer that carries us onto Athabasca Glacier! We stay in Jasper this evening. B


Day 5 : Yellowhead Highway
We travel along the Yellowhead Highway to tonight's accommodations in Prince George. L


Day 6 : Prince Rupert
Mountains and waterfalls along the Skeena River highlight our scenic drive to Prince Rupert for tonight's accommodations. L,D


Day 7 : The Alaska Ferry
Board the Alaska Marine Highway ferryliner for an exciting overnight cruise of the Inside Passage. Watch for wildlife including eagles, porpoises, sea lions and whales.


Day 8 : The Inside Passage
Awaken to the beautiful scenery of the Inside Passage. As we approach Juneau watch for views of snow-capped mountains and impressive Mendenhall Glacier. We have accommodations tonight in downtown Juneau.


Day 9 : Juneau
Explore Juneau on a city tour. Visit the Mendenhall Glacier for spectacular views of this enormous ice field. Later we board a ferry bound for Skagway where we stay at the Westmark Inn Skagway.


Day 10 : White Pass & Yukon Route
Follow the "Trail of 98" gold seekers aboard the White Pass & Yukon Route Narrow Gauge Railway! Continuing by motorcoach along the Klondike Highway, we see Carcross Desert and Emerald Lake. For two nights we stay in Whitehorse, capital of the Yukon Territory. L


Day 11 : Whitehorse
This morning we tour the Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre and learn about this area's significance during the Ice Age. Tonight we are guests at The Frantic Follies, a turn-of-the-century vaudeville revue that depicts the entertainment seen by the pioneers of the Great Klondike Gold Rush of 1898. D


Day 12 : The Alaska Highway
Watch for Dall sheep on Sheep Mountain as we travel along the shores of beautiful Kluane Lake. Later we arrive in Tok, Alaska for our overnight accommodations. L,D


Day 13 : Fairbanks
We continue along the Alaska Highway to Fairbanks. Our accommodations for two nights are at the Westmark Fairbanks. At a special dinner we enjoy generous portions of salmon, cod and prime rib grilled over an alder wood fire, at a traditional Alaska Salmon Bake. B,D


Day 14 : Riverboat Discovery
At the Gold Dredge 8, we pan for gold and keep what we find! Our delicious included lunch is at Pike's Waterfront Lodge, a local favorite on the Chena River. Cruise aboard the Riverboat Discovery and stop at a recreated Athabascan village, see fish wheels and watch a sled dog demonstration. B,L


Day 15 : Denali
Today we journey to Denali National Park. Before embarking on our Tundra Wilderness Tour, we enjoy lunch on the bluffs of the Nenana River. This afternoon we board tundra tour buses and journey 53 miles into Denali National Park. Wildlife is bountiful and often visible. We overnight at a Denali Park Lodge. B,L


Day 16 : Matanuska Valley
At the Iditarod Trail Headquarters, learn about the Alaska state sport, dog mushing. We then travel to Alaska's agricultural region. At the Musk Ox Farm we see these fabulous ice age survivors and learn about the importance of their wool. We arrive in downtown Anchorage for two relaxing evenings. L


Day 17 : 26 Glacier Cruise
We drive south along fjord-like Turnagain Arm with views of glaciers and mountains. See animals up-close on a tour of the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. Later, we see 26 different glaciers as we cruise on Prince William Sound. Watch for playful sea otters, seals and bald eagles as we get close enough to see and hear glaciers "calving" into the sea! We return to Anchorage this evening. L


Day 18 : Anchorage
Enjoy a leisurely morning and a visit to the Anchorage Museum at the Rasmuson Center. This afternoon we have a wonderful Holiday Vacations Farewell Lunch before visiting the Alaska Native Heritage Center. Tonight we board our overnight flight home. L


Day 19 : Arrive Home
We return home with fond memories of our adventure.
