Daily Itinerary Items

Day 1 : Travel to Glasgow
North American guests board an overnight flight to Glasgow, once an industrial port city and now renowned as a sparkling city of culture.


Day 2 : Arrive Glasgow
Our Blue Badge guide greets us as we arrive at the airport and facilitates transfers to our home for the next two nights, the Jury's Inn Glasgow. Our Holiday Vacations' Tour Director and CraftLit® Host, Heather Ordover will be greeting you at the hotel upon arrival to assist you with check in before our welcome dinner tonight. D


Day 3 : Glasgow, Paisley & Weaver's Cottage
Enjoy a full buffet breakfast each morning of the tour to fuel you for the day's adventures. This morning we will enjoy a brief tour of Glasgow before heading west to the city of Paisley, famous for the beautiful and intricately woven shawls that made this area famous during the 1800s. We will spend time at the Paisley Museum seeing historic examples of the garments. In the afternoon, we travel to the village of Kilbarchan to view what life was like before the industrial revolution. We will tour a weaver's cottage and learn about life for the workers who wove these shawls at home. This evening is free to explore the city of Glasgow. B


Day 4 : Loch Katrine & Stirling Castle
We bid goodbye to Glasgow and head north to the Trossachs region of Scotland which includes Loch Lomond and Loch Katrine. Enjoy a cruise on Loch Katrine, birthplace of Rob Roy and inspiration of the poem, The Lady of the Lake. In the afternoon, we visit Stirling Castle and learn the real story about the battle of Stirling Bridge and William Wallace, known as Braveheart. Dating back to the 1200s, this castle is one of the most important castles in Scotland – both historically and architecturally. This evening we check-in to Dunkeld House and Spa located on 280 acres of beautiful Perthshire countryside. Tonight we enjoy an included dinner at the hotel. B,D


Day 5 : Birnam Wood & Distillery
Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn and cauldron bubble… this morning we take a short hike in Birnam Wood to see the Ancient Oak of Shakespearian fame. Heather will do a short reading in the wood from "the play that shall not be named" to add to the atmosphere. We visit the village of Dunkeld to explore the Beatrix Potter exhibit and the village with free time for lunch. At the Blair Atholl Distillery, learn about how whisky is made and try "a wee dram." Late afternoon we head to the Highlands and visit Leault Working Dogs for a demonstration of sheep herding with border collies. Dinner is included this evening. Our accommodations for the next two nights are at the Glen Mor Hotel, located on the River Ness in Inverness. B,D


Day 6 : Dunrobin Castle & Culloden Battlefield
We venture out this morning to visit Dunrobin Castle. Explore the castle, the extensive gardens, and enjoy a demonstration of the ancient art of falconry. Next, we visit the Culloden Battlefield. Recently made famous by the television series, Outlander; this battle site is one of the most important sites in Scottish history. This is where the 1745 Jacobite Uprising came to its tragic end and Scotland was changed forever. B


Day 7 : Glamis Castle & Edinburgh
We head south and see a bit of Cairngorms National Park on the way to Glamis Castle. Over 600 years old, Glamis Castle is considered to be the most beautiful castle in Scotland. Girlhood home to Elizabeth Bowes Lyons, mother of Queen Elizabeth II and setting for Shakespeare’s Macbeth, this castle has more ghosts and legends attached to it than any other. After a city tour of Edinburgh, we check-in to Ibis Edinburgh Centre South Bridge Hotel. Located a three minute walk to the Royal Mile, this property is in a great location to explore the city. Tonight is free to visit medieval underground Edinburgh, go on a ghost walk, take a literary walking tour or explore one of the many cozy pubs located in the city. B


Day 8 : Rosslyn Chapel & Abbotsford House
Rosslyn Chapel has been made famous by the novel The Da Vinci Code and inspired poetry by Sir Walter Scott. This beautiful chapel with its ornate decoration is truly something at which to marvel and explore. Afterward we visit Abbotsford House and Garden, former home of Sir Walter Scott located on the River Tweed in the Scottish Borderlands. Novelist, poet, biographer and playwright, Sir Walter Scott penned Ivanhoe, Rob Roy, The Lady of the Lake and many others. We enjoy a full afternoon tea while at Abbotsford House. On our way back to Edinburgh, we pass through Swanston, former summer home of Robert Louis Stevenson. B,T


Day 9 : Edinburgh & Scottish Dinner
Today is yours to enjoy Edinburgh! Tour Edinburgh Castle, the Palace at Holyrood House, Grey Friar’s Churchyard, local yarn shops, the Tartan Weaving Mill & Experience or one of many other easily reached attractions. Your Tour Director will have plenty of ideas for you. Tonight we experience The Taste of Scotland show and dinner at historic Prestonfield House. A wonderful three-course Scottish dinner with wine is accompanied by the songs, stories and legends of Scotland. You may even be invited to join in a traditional Scottish folk dance! B,D


Day 10 : Journey Home
We head home today filled with treasured memories and warmed by new friendships. B
