‘Tis the Season for Caring & Sharing

‘Tis the Season for Caring & SharingRead about Holiday Vacations philanthropy in our community and in some of our favorite travel destinations.

This holiday season Holiday Vacations made significant monetary donations to both the Fairbanks Food Bank and the Food Bank of Alaska. The donation will be going directly to supporting their feeding programs.

Fairbanks Food Bank

As the only food bank within 400 miles, Fairbanks Food Bank has a big responsibility. Their coverage range includes all of Interior Alaska and large swaths of Northern Alaska. The Fairbanks Food Bank accomplishes this by sending food boxes to 100 local agencies that distribute the food on their behalf. These agencies include the Fairbanks Rescue Mission, Breadline, and familiar names such as Meals on Wheels.

Food Bank of Alaska

Located in Anchorage, the Food Bank of Alaska serves the Last Frontier’s largest city by working with collaborating partners including grocers, farmers, and charitable community members. In 2016 the Food Bank of Alaska distributed 5.7 million meals all around the state to more than 300 food pantries and other programs serving food insecure people and families.

This holiday season Holiday Vacations made a significant monetary donation to the Food Bank of Alaska which is going directly to their feeding programs.

Bolton Refuge House

In the Holiday Vacations lobby there is a Christmas Tree loaded with presents for families in need in our community. Before Christmas all of the presents will be donated to the Bolton Refuge House – a safe space for people and families impacted by domestic abuse and sexual assault. While their emergency shelter is their most visible service in our community, their resources for support are vast and also include counseling, advocacy, legal support, and specialized care for our Hmong and Spanish-speaking populations.

Kids N’ Cops Program

Every autumn at one of our favorite local diners, the Altoona Family Restaurant donates 100% of their proceeds to the Kids N’ Cops Program, which allows underprivileged children to spend a fun-filled day with local law enforcement. Holiday Vacations matched the funds raised at this Kids N’ Cops night at Altoona Family Restaurant to provide children involved in the program new clothes, winter outerwear, and Christmas presents.

Boys & Girls Club Steak Dinner

Holiday Vacations sponsored a table at the 11th Annual Boys & Girls Club Steak Dinner this September. The Boys & Girls Club of the Greater Chippewa Valley aims to ensure kids are successful in school with a number of after school and summertime programs. To keep the Club’s priorities in perspective, kids enjoy steaks while adults enjoy burgers! It’s a fun-filled evening of delicious food, performances from Club members, a silent auction featuring unique items made by members, and much more.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s

We understand Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of dementia is devastating and affects us all in one way or another. There are more than five million Americans living with Alzheimer’s, and every 66 seconds someone in the United States is diagnosed with the disease.

In late September, Holiday Vacations sponsored a team of 19 employees to participate in the 2017 Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Eau Claire, W which was presented by the Alzheimer’s Association, who hosts more than 600 fundraising walks like this throughout the United States. The funds go to Alzheimer’s care, support, and research.
