Highlights
- Day 1: Fly to Washington, D.C.Our historic adventure begins with a flight to the capital of the United States, where we settle into our lovely accommodations for the next five nights.
- Day 2: Our National MonumentsEach morning of our getaway includes a wonderful included breakfast at the hotel. Today, an expert local guide boards our motorcoach to share incredible history as we tour the city. We view the most notable attractions, such as the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, inspired by his famous I Have A Dream speech; the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, a symbol of liberty; and the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, a dedication to one of the country’s most beloved presidents. After lunch together, we drive by Embassy Row and continue our tour at the National Mall, where our guide details the defining moments in our country’s history that occurred here. See the Lincoln Memorial, which overlooks the reflecting pool, and the Washington Monument, a stunning marble obelisk that soars over 550 feet above the city skyline. The evening is at your leisure.

- Day 3: Memorial VisitsWe’re reunited with our local guide this morning for another spectacular day of exploring the city. Pay respects to the brave heroes of our nation with visits to the Korean War, World War II, and US Marine Corps War Memorials. We also see the Vietnam Veterans Memorial’s granite wall, which lists the names of those who lost their lives; The Three Servicemen Statue, a striking tribute to the diversity of America’s forces in Vietnam; and the Vietnam Women’s Memorial, honoring the thousands of women who served. This afternoon, enjoy lunch on your own at Union Station, then spend the remainder of the day exploring individual interests.

- Day 4: Mount VernonEnjoy a relaxing morning before we venture across the state border to George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate in Virginia. Surrounded by colonial charm, we dine at The Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant before touring his historic mansion and exploring the grounds. Learn about the life and times of the “Father of Our Country” while browsing intricate galleries and restored rooms. Afterwards, we return to D.C. for an evening at leisure.

- Day 5: The SmithsonianToday, we visit the esteemed Smithsonian Institution, the world’s largest museum and research complex with 21 museums and galleries. We explore the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, which displays thousands of aviation and space artifacts, including the Space Shuttle Discovery, to depict the history of human space flight, World War II aviation, vertical flight, and more. We also browse exhibits at The National Museum of Natural History, ranging from the earliest humans to modern mammals, and the National Museum of American History, which is devoted to the cultural, social, and political development of our country. This evening, we celebrate our adventures with a Farewell Dinner, followed by an evening illumination drive past the U.S. Capitol and treasured monuments.

- Day 6: Arlington Cemetery & Fly HomeThis morning, we take a tram tour through Arlington National Cemetery to see the Kennedy gravesites, witness the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and view the memorial honoring members of the Challenger crew. This afternoon, we return home with lifelong memories of our time uncovering history in our nation’s capital.
